League champions fall in Sweet 16 round

Posted

WENATCHEE – The Central Washington 2B League champion Lady Shockers were eliminated in the Sweet 16 round of regional basketball competition by a 45-40 loss to Northwest Christian (Colbert) at Wenatchee High School last Saturday, Feb. 29.
The No. 11 Lady Shockers made the No. 14 Lady Crusaders work for the win in the loser-out game but do have a league crown to soothe their playoff memories.
Waterville-Mansfield compiled a 15-1 CW2B league and 19-5 overall record losing only to Liberty Bell in their third game of the season on Dec. 10 last year. The Lady Shockers vanquished both Lake Roosevelt and Brewster in the league playoffs but lost to Tri-Cities Prep in the Bi-District 5/6 tournament on Feb. 22.
The good news for the Lady Shockers is that while they will be losing senior and All-League player Sarah Mullen to graduation next June the remainder of the team, including 2019-20 Player of the Year Elizabeth Katovich and All-League nominees Ella Osborne, Alex Poppie and Codee Reid, will all  be back in uniform next year.
