Mustangs avenge earlier loss with 14-13 win over Hornets

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – Revenge was sweet for the Mustangs varsity baseball team as they held on to a one-run lead to defeat Oroville in a final home stand last Tuesday, May 2. The Bridgeport win evened the season record 1-1 against the Hornets who handed the Mustangs an 11-7 loss last April 25.
The Senior Night home finale gave an upbeat sendoff to Bridgeport seniors Tano Martinez, Isai Acevado and Zackary Gonzalez who suited up for the last time in Mustangs orange and black.
Bridgeport closed its regular season with a 3-13 North Central Washington 2B League record on the strength of a doubleheader win over Lake Roosevelt in addition to last week’s Oroville victory.
The Mustangs struggled through the regular season with a roster heavy with eighth graders and freshman who made up 17 of the team’s 22 players. If Andrew Gaines plays next season, he will be Bridgeport’s only returning senior. Manny Flores will be the only returning junior, so the Mustangs will still have a young, but more experienced lineup of veterans.
