Mustangs soccer team on a winning run

BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs varsity soccer team lost its first game of the season to the Ephrata Tigers, 3-1, but made up for the loss by winning its next game two games by defeating Oroville, 4-2, on the road April 22, and Tonasket, 3-1, at home on April 24.

Head coach Gabe Gonzalez reported that the Mustangs scored two goals in the first half of the Oroville match. Cristian Lopez scored twice with an assist by Yair Diaz, followed by a goal by Diaz with an assist from Paul Torres.

Jesus Valdovinos scored both of Bridgeport’s second half goals. Goalkeeper Elmer Alvarez was credited with three saves.

Against Tonasket Tony Flores scored in the first half with an assist from Diaz. A second score from an own goal was hit off a cross from Flores. Following a second half Tonasket goal, Diaz scored Bridgeport’s third goal with an assist from Brandon Valdovinos. Goalie Elmer Alvarez had seven saves.
