Mustangs win, Fillies lose to Republic

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs varsity basketball team went into Christmas break with their largest winning margin of the season after a 56-9 rout of a hapless Republic team that was missing three starters.
Coach Pat McFadden said the Tigers were “banged up” and had to bring up several eighth graders to fill out the varsity ranks.
“We played pretty well and were able to rest our starters for three-fourths of the game,” said McFadden. “It was a great opportunity to get my young players some much needed experience as undoubtedly we will need them down the stretch.”
McFadden said Manny Flores played well in his varsity debut and Carlos Flores led all scorers with 12 points.
McFadden said he was inspired by Republic’s willingness to fight despite the difficulties.
“They may not see it this way,” said McFadden, “but in the long run their program will be better for it - imagine if you had 5th year seniors playing for you one day - invaluable.”
The Mustangs are ranked seventh in the Central Washington 2B League with a 2-3 record.
Fillies fall
It was a different story for the Fillies who encountered a tough Lady Tigers team that carried the day with a 50-30 victory.
The Fillies are currently 2-3 and in sixth place in the CW2B, one game behind Lake Roosevelt who Bridgeport plays on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Bridgeport was scheduled to host Entiat on Wednesday, Dec. 27, before traveling to Pateros on Thursday, Dec. 28.
