YAKIMA – The Pateros Nannies varsity volleyball team came within a game of making it into the hardware round at the 2018 WIAA 1B Volleyball State Championships in the SunDome last week.

Pateros beat Neah Bay, 3-1, in the first round of competition on Thursday, Nov 8. The Red Devils who finished first in the 1B North Olympic league, matched their 5-1 record against the Nannies 11-1 Central Washington B stats and came up short, 25-6, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-23.

The win advanced Pateros to the quarterfinals where Oakesdale, undefeated in the 1B Southeast league, waited. The Lady Nighthawks played the style of solid, consistent volleyball that would make them eventual state champions by frustrating the Nannies, 25-10, 25-14, and 25-6, to take the series in three.

The loss sent the Nannies into the consolation round on Friday, Nov. 9, where fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth places were up for grabs. Pateros met Puget Sound Advent with the winner guaranteed a shot at either fifth or sixth. The Lady Sharks, unbeaten in the 1B/2B SeaTac league, let Pateros get close in two games but shut out the Nannies, 3-0, with game scores of 25-20. 25-17, and 25-22.  PSA lost to Firm Foundation to finish sixth.
