Pateros wins first league game of season

PATEROS – The Billygoats varsity boys basketball team opened its season with its first conference win against Thorp on the road, Dec. 1, as it played three teams over a four-day period including a close loss to Bridgeport and a loss at home to Curlew.

“We were able to get our first win of the season against Thorp,” said head coach Marcus Stennes. “We were able to secure the rebound and push in transition for some easy baskets. We had 14 steals in the game which came from our defensive pressure.”

Bridgeport Nov. 29

“We started out our season against Bridgeport and did good,” said Stennes. “We struggled the first three quarters being down 17 points at the start of the fourth. We were able to battle back and out score Bridgeport 24-11 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. I was proud of my guys for not letting up and continuing to battle back.”

“We struggled in our home opener vs. Curlew,” said Stennes. “They were able to shoot out of the gates and outscore us 18-5 in the first quarter. We were able to limit them to six points in the second, but we could only score eight. The third quarter was a momentum changer when we allowed them to score 24 points and could not get back into it after that.”
