BRIDGEPORT – The Mustangs varsity soccer team, undefeated 2-0 in Central Washington 2B league soccer, are just one game out of first place with wins over Liberty Bell and Tonasket and late last month.
Bridgeport defeated the Mountain Lions, 4-0, at its home pitch, March 22, and followed that victory with a 5-4 home win over Tonasket on March 27.
The Tigers scored first in the ninth minute and were answered by Bridgeport’s Alex Zarate with the Mustangs’ tying score two minutes later, reported head coach Gabe Gonzalez.
Tonasket scored again in the 21st minute to carry the lead for seven minutes until Keven Cervantes found the net in the 289th minute to again tie the game, 2-2.
Bridgeport took the lead on a Hugo Santana score in the 30th minute but the Tigers caught up just before halftime to knot the game at three apiece.
Tonasket scored goal number four in the 50th minute and an Alexis Valdovinos goal in the 90th minute to take the tie game into overtime.
A scoreless overtime came down to a shoot-out that gave the Mustangs the one-goal victory.
Goalkeepers Edgar Meza and Carlos Ruiz had 10 and eight saves respectively for the Mustangs.
Bridgeport will be back on the pitch when it hosts Oroville at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.
