Urias, Sanchez named CW2B softball Pitcher, Player of Year

BREWSTER – The Lady Bears varsity softball team, that finished the North Central Washington 2B season as undefeated 19-0 league champion, saw six of its players voted to the All-League First and Second teams, including Player of the Year, Abby Urias, and Pitcher of the Year, Yvette Sanchez.
Urias, the team catcher, and Sanchez, are both juniors so they will be back again next year as part of a nucleus of five seniors who will provide a strong corps of team leadership.
Juniors, Maret Miller and Marlisa Garcia and freshman, Michaun Kelpman were all Lady Bears First Team selections.
Sophomore, Ariana Salcido of Waterville-Mansfield also made First Team.
Freshman, Cynthia Sanchez of Brewster and senior, Aubrey Miller of Pateros were All-League Second Team nominees.
Senior, Anna Schluneger and freshman, Taylor Harrild of Pateros, Bridgeport senior, Shaylee Polvos, and senior, Evelyn Negrette of Waterville-Mansfield received Honorable Mention nods.
The Lady Bears suffered only two losses this season, both non-league games to 1A Cashmere of the Caribou Trail League.
Brewster will be in Ephrata, Saturday, May 20, as the No. 1 seed for the first round of competition in the District 5/6 tournament.
Pateros fell to Sunnyside Christian, 11-1, in the first loser-out round of district competition at Kittitas, May 3.
Waterville-Mansfield lost to Liberty Bell, 10-0 in the first loser-out round of league playoffs, May 6.
