Veterans return to Pateros varsity softball lineup

Posted

PATEROS – Experience will be the big advantage the Nannies varsity softball brings to the softball diamond this season. Fourth year head coach John Slater said that the bulk of the 17 girls turning out this year are returning veterans minus two lost to graduation last June
“We lost our pitcher and our catcher to graduation last year,” said Slater, but he is already developing an eighth grader and a sophomore to fill those vacuums.
The Nannies finished in the middle of the pack in the Central Washington B 2B league last season and face another year of tough opponents in Brewster, Liberty Bell, Tonasket, Oroville and probably Manson.
“The only team we are going to play outside the league this year is Okanogan’s junior varsity,” Slater said.
Slater will be assisted again this year by Darryl White.
The Nannies open their season on Saturday, March 17, with a doubleheader at Tonasket. Then it’s on the road at Soap Lake, Wednesday, March 21.
