WENATCHEE – When they most needed a solid four-quarter performance game, the Lady Bears could not get their shots to drop in the second quarter as Brewster fell to the White Swan Cougars, 53-41, in Regional playoff action in the Panthers gym last Friday, Feb. 24.
Brewster got off to a good start over White Swan in the first quarter as Maret Miller and Sammi Emigh each knocked down four points to give the Lady Bears a one-point, 10-9 lead. Then Miller, Brewster’s leading scorer, got into early foul trouble and had to sit out part of the game.
A Cougar 18-point run in the second quarter gave White Swan a commanding 28-11 lead that they took into the locker room at halftime.
Emigh’s six third-quarter points, along with even scoring spread among four other Lady Bears, whittled four points off White Swan’s margin but the Cougars matched Brewster point-for-point in the final quarter to preserve a 12-point victory.
Another difference was at the free-throw line where White Swan shot 19-26 for a 73-percent average. The Lady Bears connected on 11 of 23 for 47 percent.
The loss ended the Lady Bear’s post-season as Brewster finished with a 15-1 in league, 17-5 overall record as Central Washington 2B League champions and placed second in District 5/6 play.
The other good news is that the team that made it to the Regional round of play will not lose a single player to graduation this year. Added to that, the Lady Bears landed five players on the CW2B All-League teams including Miller, who was voted the league’s Most Valuable Player.
