Brewster Fire Department hosts Open House

Posted

BREWSTER – Firemen’s hats to fire engine rides, hotdogs to handouts, the Brewster Fire Department had it all for visitors who dropped by the two-hour Open House from 6-8 p.m., last Thursday, Oct. 20.

Sources at the all-volunteer department said a full crew to staff the operations would include about 20 members where the station has about 12 active right now. The event helps spread the word that volunteers are needed while it provides the up-and-coming future volunteers who are now youngsters a taste of the excitement and camaraderie that comes with being involved.

Brewster High School has been a source of new members as 2016 graduate Dario Orozco can attest.

A steady stream of parents and children stopped by as darkness set in and fire truck lights came on. A line of riders waited their turns to hop in the cab and take a tour of the town.

Everybody likes the firemen.
