American Legion hosts third annual golf tournament

Two teams tie for first

PATEROS – The third annual American Legion Golf Tournament proved to have the drawing power to make it another huge success at the Alta Lake Golf Course last Saturday, Sept. 11,

“We had 13 teams participating in our four-man scramble,” said Legion Commander Greg Wagg, “and for the first time we had two teams tie for first place.”

The Harvest Foods team and the Giroux teams both shot an 11 under par 61 in a two-way tie for first. The Harvest Foods team won free rounds of golf at the Bear Mountain Golf Course in Chelan and the Giroux team won its money back in club credits at the Alta Lake Golf Course. 
Closest to the pin winners on the par three holes included:
• Hole No. 2, Sam Wagg, 2 feet, 8 inches - won two rounds of golf at Omak Golf Course.
• Hole No. 6, Thomas Steggall, 15’ 5” - won two rounds of golf at Bear Creek Golf Course.
• Hole No. 12, Jace Zen, 9’ 8” - won two rounds of golf at Gamble Sands Golf Course.
• Hole No. 14, Sam Wagg, 11’ 2” - won two rounds of golf at Highlander Golf Course.

Zach Johnson won the men’s Long Drive with a distance of 320 yards. Nichole Varrelman won the women’s division with a 170-yard drive off the tee. Each winner received a Puetz golf shop gift card.

Adam Bartelle won the long marshmallow drive and $55.

This year’s tournament included a silent auction featuring gift certificates among which were two nights for two at Winthrop’s River Run Inn ($400 - $600 value depending on season), golf cart service from Zero Handicap in East Wenatchee ($139 value), a CBD basket from Haystack Caps ($250 value). 

Also featured were Pro-drive tickets for team use on hole No. 7 and four mulligan tickets per team. Lunch was a pulled-pork Hoagie sandwich with coleslaw and chips. Complimentary cold drinks were provided along with a beverage cart on the course.

“The American Legion would like to thank Parker Barth, his golf course staff, our sponsors and all the volunteers who helped make this tournament possible,” Wagg said.

Tournament sponsors included Zero Handicap, Eagle Rock Physical Therapy,  O’Connel Drilling,  Isenhart Excavation,  Alta Lake Ladies,  Sweet River Bakery,  BTO Construction, Brewster Harvest Foods, Kodi’s Noon Saloon, Varrelman Auto Glass, Brewster Veterinary Clinic, Boesel Construction, Stackhouse plumbing, The Land Company, Websters Furniture, Denny Pitman, Erlandsen Engineering, NW Wholesale, Schull’s Towing/Brewster Car Care, North Cascades Bank, Blue Water Sanitation, Omak Golf Course, Bear Creek Golf Course, Highlander Golf Course, Gamble Sands Golf Course, Bear Mountain Golf Course, Haystack Caps, River Run Inn, and Puetz Golf Stores.
Tournament volunteers were Jamie Frisk, Andi Frisk, Wesley Allen, Eleni Westerdahl, Faith Johnson, Glenn Farrington, Frank Williver, Sheri Spear, Sue Langston, Karen Daniels, Jerome and Stacey Elson, Tim Reib, Bob Lewis, Randy Moore, and Barry Mailtland.  

The Legion’s next event is a Hawaiian Pork Feed from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Sept 25.
