Brewster celebrates waterline replacement, well house construction projects

BREWSTER – City officials, state legislators, funding partners, designers, and agency representatives gathered at the end of Reservoir Hill Road last Wednesday, July 28, for a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The occasion marks another milestone in the multi-year march the city has been on as apart of its Manganese Abatement Project that began in 2015 when the city launched its campaign to find funding. City clerk/treasurer Misty Ruiz summarized the project timeline:
2017: City received $729,440 direct appropriation from the Washington State Legislature. Signed an agreement with U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for a combined grant of $6,300,000 and loan of $2,631,000. Project design and engineering phase commenced.
2019: Bids for and drilling of test wells.
2020: Production well drilling. Waterline bids and construction. Well house bids and construction.
2021: Waterline construction completed. First well house completed. Bid request for second well house.
