Brewster Chamber hears from two guest speakers, looking for new treasurer

BREWSTER – Guest speakers from the Care Net Pregnancy Centers and North Central Washington Economic Development District addressed the regular monthly meeting of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Sept. 4, on topics of business and social needs facing local communities.
Karla Phillips representing area Care Net Pregnancy Centers previewed the organizations second annual benefit and auction that will be held this year at Sun Mountain Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Care Net has centers in Omak, Orville, Coulee Dam and Brewster that provide free and confidential services to Okanogan County women considering abortion of facing an unplanned pregnancy.
“It’s not enough to say we’re pro-life,” said Phillips “but not give the support needed once a woman makes the decision to keep her baby.”
Care Net provides emotional and spiritual support and physical help in the form of diapers, clothes, formula, car seats and otber items through a program called Earn While You Learn that offers a variety of ways to earn points.

The October benefit and auction will raise funds not only for continued operating expenses but also to help purchase a mobile van that provides ultrasound scans for pregnant women. Banquet tickets are $40 for the banquet and those wishing to stay overnight get a special $100 room rate.

The auction features three levels of sponsorship, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Gold sponsors ($1,000) get company logo and sponsorship recognition for six months on the Care Net website, table sponsorship, event banner, press release and video presentation recognition together with eight event tickets.
Silver table sponsors ($500) receive table sponsorship, press release and video presentation recognition along with four event tickets.
Bronze individual sponsors ($250) receive logo/sponsorship and video presentation recognition and two event tickets.
The deadline for sponsors is Sept. 21.
Since the main auction will feature mainly big-ticket items, a second silent auction will focus on more a more affordable selection of gift certificates, theme baskets and similar items. Brown, Marketing and Events manager for NCWEDD, introduced a new project, the Supernova Business Launch Competition (SBLC) coming in October. SBLC seeks to address regional challenges facing small business entrepreneurs by identifying an supporting new and expanding NCW businesses.
In other business the chamber is looking for a new treasurer in the wake of Lainie Hammond’s resignation effective Sept. 4, and a new director to replace Brewster Senior Center Presient Kathy Lowry who resigned her position on August 22. Nominations for replacement candidates are due by Oct. 15 for an election scheduled for Nov. 30.
The next meeting of the Brewster chamber is 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, at American Legion Columbia Post 97.
