BREWSTER – The annual Awards Luncheon honoring the citizen and businesses of the year and the first annual Cherries Jubilee celebration were the major topics of discussion at the regular monthly meeting of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday, March 7.
The Brewster Citizen of the Year and large and small business of the year will be announced at the awards luncheon scheduled for noon, Thursday, March 15, at Los Camperos Restaurant. Chamber president Anna Marie Dalbey put out a final call for votes or nominees for all categories for awards consideration.
The first annual Cherries Jubilee, tentatively planned for Saturday, June 16, is a major project for chamber members in the weeks ahead. Chamber representatives were scheduled to appear before this week’s city council meeting to request the requisite approval and cooperation of city officials.
“We used to have Bonanza Days,” said Dalbey who wants to resume an event similar to Apple Pie Jamboree in Pateros and Bridgeport Daze in Bridgeport.
Plans calls for a Cherries Fun Run, a three-kilometer over-the-bridge-and-back, car show, parade, vendors, entertainment and more.
Dalbey said she has been overwhelmed with inquiries from car owners who want to display their wheels. Based on that interest Dalbey anticipates some 10 categories for various vintages and models.
Cherry pie sales, a cherry dessert contest, three-on-three basketball and entertainment by Waterdog and singer Britney Jean are also in the works.
In conjunction with Cherries Jubilee the chamber is hosting a Cherries Jubilee logo design contest with an entry deadline of April 20. The winning design will be featured on the event t-shirt. The winner will receive a $25 VISA gift card and will ride on the chamber parade float.
Entries can be mailed to P.O.B. 1087, Brewster WA 98812; emailed to brewsterwachamber@gmail.com; or left with Dalbey at Coldwell Banker on Main Street or with Martin or Manny Hurtado at The Armory in Brewster.
The chamber’s guest speaker this month was member Chris Majors, Business Development Coordinator for Three Rivers Hospital and owner of Majors Creative. Majors, who developed websites for the TRH Foundation and the chamber, spoke to the group about the finer points of promoting their businesses on Facebook.
Dalbey also reminded listeners that one of the perks of chamber membership is free posting of employment openings on the chamber’s website.
