Brewster Food Bank requests donor support

Posted

BREWSTER – The Brewster Food Bank has issued a request for support from community businesses and citizens as the disparity between donations coming in and expenses going out continues to threaten the organization’s survival.
On August 30, the Brewster Food Bank Advisory Committee released a letter that reviewed the group’s mission, thanked those who have donated in the past for their generous support, and explained the present state of operations.
“Because regular monthly expenses have been exceeding donations, we need to appeal to our generous community members for contributions  to sustain our mission,” the letter reads, “We’re asking businesses, institutions and individuals in the community who value the Food Bank and the services it provides to the less fortunate in the area to donate funds to continue our good work.”
The bulk of the food distributed by the local food bank comes from Northwest Harvest, The Emergency Good Assistance Program (TEFAP) added to substantial donations from Brewster Marketplace, Safeway local fruit processors, gardeners, food drives, and various organizations.
Money donations are few at this time, said director Neil McKee.
“We have a local church that is contributing $150 a month and a local woman donating $20 a month,” McKee said. “Those are the only regular donations right now.”
The Brewster Food Bank equally serves 85 -130 families on a weekly basis from Pateros, Brewster and Bridgeport and operates independently of the owner of the building that provides its space.
Donations in any amount are welcome and supporters are encouraged to consider giving on a monthly basis. The Brewster Food Bank is located at 301 Fourth St. South in Brewster. The mailing address is P.O.B. 826, Brewster, WA 98812. Questions may be directed to Neil McKee at 509-322-1009, or Earl Patterson at 509-845-3895.
