Brewster school construction chugs along

Indoor track is ready

BREWSTER – The latest update from the Brewster school district about ongoing construction and renovation projects comes with good news.
Superintendent Eric Driessen reports that the public use has begun at the middle school as community members wanting access to the new indoor walking track can sign out a key at the upstairs middle school office. Use of the large performance space can also be scheduled at the middle school office.
Renovations continue at the elementary school building scheduled to be completed later this summer.
“The east half of the elementary is being updated first, then the west half,” said Driessen. “The updates will include safety and security, new library, along with new technology and energy efficiency just to name a few.”
Request for contract bids for the high school, track and more will go out in July or August this year, Driessen said. That work is currently scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2022.
“Phasing for this project is a bit more complex,” said Driessen. “Trying to provide space to teach and use of the gym and food service for 950 students while updating the building will take a little longer to complete.”
The middle school performance space has already hosted several events, among them the Veterans Day assembly, the first move night last November, and a pair of music concerts last December.
The Missoula Children’s theater, a traveling theatrical company who used Brewster students to produce a live play, was scheduled to perform on Jan. 31, and Feb. 1.
