Bridgeport Council will explore social media policy

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – The city considered further discussion of adopting a social media policy at its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 20, as a result of a council member’s recommendation following attendance at a recent Association of Washington Cities/Rick Management Services Agency conference.

Council member Matthew Schuh said many cities are establishing social media policies to control the dissemination of information over Facebook sites and other outlets as a measure to limit potential liability.

“Bridgeport maintains a Facebook page,” said Schuh and recommended broad guidelines to conform to public reporting standards and clarify boundaries between public and personal communications. Council members agreed with the suggestion to pursue the issue further.

In other business the city applied for $20,000 in funding through an application to Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority that, if granted, will be added to a $24,000 Community Development Block Grant dedicated to city beautification projects.

Public Works Superintendent Stuart Dezellem reported that he is making major headway with the creation of a comprehensive GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) map that will eventually identify every city feature and infrastructure element geo-referenced by longitude and latitude lines.

As an example, Dezellem said he eventually hopes to have every gravesite and headstone in the cemetery identified by GIF reference points.
