BRIDGEPORT – A Douglas County deputy was on routine patrol at approximately 4 p.m., last Thursday, Feb. 15, when he stopped a vehicle on State Route 173, milepost two, for a traffic violation. The driver, 34-year-old Ivan Sanchez of Bridgeport, wanted on a warrant for residential burglary, was arrested and transported to the Okanogan County jail.
Last Friday, Feb. 16, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Douglas County deputy on routine patrol observed a vehicle cross the centerline in the 1100 block of Sunset Highway. The vehicle jerked back into its own lane before the deputy activated emergency lights and pulled the vehicle to the side of the road. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver inadvertently popped the trunk.
The female driver, a 26-year-old East Wenatchee resident, “smelled of alcohol and performed poorly in the field sobriety tests” according to a report written by Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal. The driver was arrested and transported to the Chelan County jail.
Douglas County deputies and Brewster police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1200 block area of Douglas Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. last Sunday, Feb.18. A deputy searching the area on foot heard a vehicle engine rev and waved down the driver, 29-year-old Francisco Lorenzano-Basurto of Bridgeport.
The deputy spotted a 9mm Smith and Wesson, with slide locked back and magazine empty, lying on the seat. The serial number on the weapon had been altered.
Lorenzano-Basurto, who was also found to be driving under the influence, was placed under arrest and a second empty magazine was found in his coat pocket. The suspect told the deputy that the firearm was not his but could not recall the name of its owner. Lorenzano-Basurto was booked into the Okanogan County jail for DUI and the case referred to the county prosecutor for possible of weapons charges.
Later that same day at approximately 1 p.m., Douglas County deputies responded to a trespass report at a Bridgeport apartment complex at the 1200 block of Fairview Avenue. Deputies were directed to a tenant laundry room where they found a ladder leading to a crawl space.
After hearing voices coming from the crawl space, deputies ordered the non-tenant trespassers to come out. Deputies detained 31-year-old Antonio Infante of Brewster and 21-year-old Erin Phillips of Tonasket, who did not have permission to be on the property, for first degree trespass. Both were issued criminal citations and released at the scene.
Still later at approximately 9:30 p.m., Douglas County deputies went to a residence in the 700 block of Fairview Avenue in Bridgeport in search for 24-year-old Derrick Charley of Omak, wanted on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.
A female at the residence stated she had not seen Charley in hours, “but when a deputy called out his name, he appeared from a back room,” Gjesdal wrote.
Charley was arrested without incident for escape from community custody, transported to the Okanogan County jail and booked on the DOC warrant.
