Jim Detro wants third term at Okanogan County Commissioner, Distrist 3

Posted

TONASKET – Lifelong Okanogan County resident and incumbent Okanogan County District 3 Commissioner Jim Detro is seeking reelection to his third term in that office. Detro, a Republican, was first elected in 2009.
Running on the slogan, “I don’t like problems, I like solutions” Detro cites the three unfinished business items high on his to-do list as continuing efforts to solve the apex predator problem, preserving the Winthrop Smokejumper Base in perpetuity, and opposing unfunded mandates from the state Legislature.

Detro recently cited his accomplishments and expressed his views on five topics submitted by the Quad city Herald.

1. Forest Management and Wildfire
I sit on the Wild Land Fire Advisory committee for the Commissioner of Public Lands.  We have made great strides in DNR Fire suppression in the last two years as a result of this committee.  We also have a short-term and long-term Forest Health.  Can't say as much for Forest Service.

2. Health care accessibility
We are changing from a RSN to a Regional system mandated by the legislature. Not sure this necessarily going to be better.  Stay tuned!

3. Adequate and affordable housing
We have a good amount of affordable housing in the County.  I prefer the ones that give senior and veterans preferences.

4. Employment and livable wage
Living wage jobs are always a struggle in Okanogan County,  especially when you lose about 200 jobs with the closure of Kinross Gold due to excessive overbearing regulations.

5. Law enforcement and the jail
The one-tenth tax voted by the people will give about $650 thousand relief to the current expense budget and put that money into juvenile and jail improvements and maintenance.
