New Business Development Coordinator works on community outreach

Bringing the news to customers

BREWSTER – Last March, Three Rivers Hospital (TRH) hired an individual to fill the position of Business Development Coordinator. Since then, Chris Majors, a California transplant, has been busy applying his professional background in photography, production and computer technology to let the community know about all the good work TRH is doing.
Majors, an alumnus of the San Francisco Art Institute brought his many years of expertise in photography, advertising and visual media to bear on a field that was new to him.
“I’d never worked in healthcare before,” said Majors. “For me everything about this job was pretty new except that I know how to create things in visual media.”
One of the main 2017 goals set forth by the TRH Board of Commissions was to hire someone who could expand the public relations aspect of the hospital’s mission.
Majors came to his job while the hospital was in the early stages of some major renovations in its growth and service curve. The Three Rivers Hospital Foundation was in the process of reactivating and renewing its non-profit 501(c)3 status. He applied his skills to media issues in-house and became involved in outside community activities to bring TRH more exposure.
Majors designed the website for the Three Rivers Hospital Foundation (www.threerivershospitalfoundation.org) and joined the Brewster Chamber of Commerce where he serves as the organization’s treasurer.
TRH has also been active in community parades throughout the Okanogan-Chelan-Douglas county area where the hospital float has become a regular fixture with Majors at the wheel of the vehicle pulling it.
The hospital has recently provided free sports physicals for school athletes in the district and participated in the Health Fair held at the Brewster schools and has been proactive with the city and school to provide flu shots.
“We had free health checks and had a large turnout from the Hispanic community,” said Majors. “People appreciate our participation with them.”
Majors calls his first year with TRH “an enjoyable challenge.”
“They really care about the community,” said Majors, “and to be able to help them get the word out and help us better connect with the community to let it know all the great work being one here has been an amazing experience.”
Since last June the hospital has been out of warrants with the county and for the first time in over a decade is on a profitable footing, though much remains to be done.
The hospital clinic and ER are also in the process of relocating, said Majors. The clinic will move to the administration space in the Hillcrest Building while the ER occupies the space vacated by the clinic.
Through all the changes, Majors is putting the best face on every aspect of hospital-community interaction through social media and his public outreach efforts.
