Pateros Chamber addresses steelhead petition, many upcoming city events

Arbor Day, Kids’ Fishing Derby, Vintage Faire ahead

PATEROS – Methow businessman, Randy Moore, addressed the Pateros Chamber of Commerce at its regular meeting April 6, to introduce a petition he is circulating among area businesses to gain support for closure of a popular fishing spot on the Methow River.
Moore, owner of the Lightning Pine RV Park in Methow, wants the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to close that portion of the lower Methow River called the Miller hole to allow more steelhead to pass upstream and offer more fishing opportunities, attract more anglers and bring in more dollars from visiting fishermen to area businesses.
Also on the agenda, the Chamber reminded all that the city’s Arbor Day observance is Friday, April 28, from 2:30-5:30 p.m.
The Kids’ Fishing Derby will be on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, for kids up to 15 years of age.
The Pateros venue of The Junk Stops Here Vintage Faire will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, in Memorial Park. Vendor spaces are available for $50 each. Interested vendors can contact chamber president, Libby Harrison at (509) 679-8452 or apply online at https://junklove509.wordpress.com. Applications must be returned by June 10.
The city-wide yard sales, salmon bake, and Pateros River Run Bike Rally with live music by The Feral Folk are also on that same fourth weekend of June.
The Pateros Chamber and Alta Lake Golf Tournament will be June 30. Hole sponsorships this year will be $125. Other details are still under development and volunteers will be needed again this year. Those interested can contact Harrison or Leigh Anne Barth at (509) 670-3245 or email pateroschamber@gmail.com.
The Save The Date Celebration to thank those involved with the city’s new water system will be held on July 14 and will be open to the public.
The Chamber agreed to be a $1,000 sponsor for Brandon Kushing’s hydroplane during this season’s racing circuit and, in turn, Kushing’s racer will be named the “Miss Pateros”.
