PATEROS – Last Saturday, April 28, a group of lucky young ladies in the company of their proud fathers, gathered at the Pateros High School gym for a “Once Upon A Time” experience – for both parties -  at the fourth annual Father/Daughter Dance 2018.
Complete with refreshments, entertainment and professionally posed portraits, the annual dance was originally organized by Pateros School District Administrative Assistant Erika Varrelman who said she got the idea from other schools.
“I saw that some of the bigger schools were doing it,” said Varrelman, “and decided that we should do that too.”
Varrelman, who also doubles as the Cheer coach, organized the occasion as a cheer fundraiser.
This year the event drew scores of dads and daughters with a total attendance of about 120, including several from nearby cities like Twisp and Omak.
“It was open to all fathers and daughters, said Varrelman, “Grandparents too. We had a big turnout with lots of new faces.”
Dj Smallz (Sarah Polina), of Dj Smallz Mobile Music Service in Omak provided the evening’s entertainment and Char Harmier of Char Harmier Photography in Brewster was the official photographer.
The Father/Daughter Dance waltzed in on the heels of the Mother/Son Dance held the previous day so both events could take advantage of the decorations used for the Quad City Prom held on Saturday, April 21. For that event K-12 Administrative Assistant Dona Slater, teacher Scotti Wiltse and Pateros ASB students put up the decorations that saw triple usage. About 75 turned out for the Mother/Son Dance, Varrelman said.
As the name implies the Quad City Prom is a joint event with participating schools including Bridgeport, Soap Lake, Entiat, Manson and Mansfield. Each year a different school hosts the prom. Last year it was Soap Lake, this year Pateros, said Varrelman.
