Rising from the Ashes Reunion runs through Sunday, July 22

PATEROS – The Rising from the Ashes Recovery Reunion and Celebration, a five-day observance with a schedule of activities befitting the past three-and-a-half-year struggle to rebuild after the state’s two largest wildfires, is underway from Wednesday, July 18 through Sunday, July 22.

The list of tours, music, food, and displays and how to register for them can be found online at okanogancountyrecovery.com. The events include:

• Float down the Okanogan River - Disaster Case Manager Jessica Rounds will lead a group on Thursday, July 19, from a 1 p.m. departure at the Omak Stampede Grounds. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kayaks, canoes, or float tubes. For help contact Aimee at 605-941-2229 or email ocltrg@gmail.com.

• Rebuild-in-Progress Tour – The OCLTRG has built 27 homes throughout Okanogan and Chelan counties with lots of help from donors and volunteers. The group is involved in the final phase of rebuilds and the tour starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, will include a visit to one of those works in progress. •  “Smoke and Mirrors” Fire Maze Display – The portable museum display will recap the 2014 Carlton Complex and 2015 Okanogan-Chelan wildfires with photos, news articles, burn remnants, stories, art and an in-depth look at recent wildfire history in the area. The display will be at Pateros High School, 344 Beach Street, Pateros. Reserve a spot online for either Friday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., of Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• “Rising from the Ashes” Dinner and Concert -  A fully catered meal at Pateros Peninsula Park from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, July 20. Local singer/songwriter Brittany Jean will perform following the dinner. The music will conclude with apple pie dessert courtesy of the Apple Pie Jamboree.

• Carlton Complex Fire Tour – The tour will start from the OCLTRG Pateros office at 169 Pateros Mall at 12 noon Saturday, July 21. Led by local volunteer Betty Hagenbuch the drive will take in point of interest from the Carlton Complex fire together with stories about the event.

• Breakfast in Twisp – A pancake breakfast from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., Sunday, July 22, at the Twisp will coincide with the “Smoke and Mirrors” portable display that will also be set up for viewing.

• Twisp River Fire Driving Tour – Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 22, this tour will take in the 2015 Twisp River Fire zone including the Twisp River Fire Memorial that claimed the lives of three firefighters who died while battling that blaze.
