BREWSTER – The Senior Center will host another of its October Play days this Friday, Oct. 20, featuring a pot of taco soup to warm things up and prepared by Center president and spokeswoman Kathy Lowry.
“I can smell it now; I have a good recipe,” said Lowry who hopes to add her food contribution to snacks others bring.
“Games have been fun and we are learning more domino games, one called Chicken Foot, which moves fast and one called Mexican Train which is very fun to play too,” Lowry said.
Play day participants do not have to be members to join in the fun.
“More people are learning the Wii game Bowling and seem to enjoy it,” said Lowry. “We find that the more you do it, the better you become.”
The Halloween Day Chili Feed menu will include a bowl of chili, corn meal muffin, ginger bread cake, and either apple juice or apple cider.  A donation of $4 would be appreciated.
“Come on down, see the pumpkin judging contest and grab a bowl of soup and a handful of candy for the young ones as you leave to do your Trick or Treating on Main Street,” said Lowry. The chili will be ready at 4 p.m. with pumpkin decorating and contest starting an hour earlier. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places.
“Our activity is an event that is in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and Boys and Girls Club celebrations,” said Lowry. “The Chamber is starting their activities approximately at 4:45 p.m. and they will be having the Trunk or Treat at the American Legion.”
Maps showing participating businesses will be available.
The Center has accepted a bid from Smart Choice Insulation and Roofing, Inc. from Pateros to install a new roof.
Installation will have to wait until spring when the temperature stays above 65 degrees so the roofing can adhere properly.
“Smart Choice is a local company and they support several local events, including the Log Cabin Christian Church, Apple Pie Jamboree, Pateros Chamber of Commerce and Terry Troxell Hydro Races,” Lowry said.
The raffle drawing for the three-piece Weber BBQ is getting close.
“We need to sell about $85 more worth of tickets and hope we can make that on or before Halloween,” said Lowry. “It would be great to draw that on our fun night.”
Tickets are $5 each of five for $20.
