Tree City USA hosts Arbor Day 2018 celebration

PATEROS – The town recognized as a Tree City USA will hold its annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 27, from 3:30-5 p.m. in Pateros Memorial Park, featuring something for everyone who loves trees.
The afternoon’s agenda will begin with Mayor Carlene Anders delivering a welcome and reciting the Arbor Day Proclamation from 3:30-3:50 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Linden Lampman, manager of the Urban and Community Forestry Program in Olympia.
Activities that will fill the schedule from 3:50-5 p.m. include a History Panel comprised of five community members who will discuss Old Pateros.
The Brewster Boys and Girls Club (BBGC) will provide kids games along with craft and science activities.
The Pateros FFA will again be on hand with its BBQ fundraiser and the Brewster Horticulture class will have plants for sale.
Demonstrations will include the proper way to plant and maintain a tree.
Food, craft and plant vendors will feature a wide variety of plants, products and eats for every taste.
Event sponsors and contributors include the BBGC, Brewster Horticulture Class, Cascade Weed and Pest Management, Okanogan County Conservation District, Okanogan County Long Term Recovery Group, Pateros-Brewster Long Term Recovery Group, Pateros Brewster Community Resource Center, Pateros FFA, and Valley Venturers 4H Club.
At 5 p.m. A Firewise Workshop conducted by the Okanogan Conservation District in the Pateros Fire Hall on Industrial Way will include an exercise on mapping neighborhoods and gathering data to help residents be better prepared for future natural disasters.
