Veterans Day ceremonies include first woman Apache helo pilot

BREWSTER – Author and motivational speaker, Shannon Huffman Polson, the first woman to fly an Apache attack helicopter in the U.S. Army, will be the featured at Veterans Day ceremonies at Brewster High School at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8.

The Brewster High School Band with the combined Middle School and High School choirs, will present a musical commemoration of WWI, that will mark the 100th anniversary of its armistice on Nov. 11.

The American Legion Honor Guard from Columbia Post 97 will present the colors and a small reception for veterans will follow the estimated 45-minute ceremony.

Pateros High School
Pateros High School will hold Veterans Day ceremonies starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9. The High School band will play patriotic songs, and two classes will have small presentations, said Pateros principal Mike Hull, and the school ASB officers will light candles during the playing of “Taps.”

“We are hoping Chuck Borg will stand and address the audience,” Hull said.

The Brewster Post 97 Honor Guard will be on hand to present the colors.

The American Legion Honor Guard from Columbia Post 97 in Brewster will participate in Veterans Day observances at three of four schools in the Quad City coverage area later this week on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 8-9.

The Post 97 Honor Guard will be at Pateros High School for Veterans Day ceremonies starting at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9,  

Bridgeport High School
Later on the afternoon of Nov. 9, the Post 97 Honor Guard will be at Bridgeport High School for a Veterans Day observance at 1 p.m. The High School and Middle School bands and choir will perform.

Mansfield High School
Mansfield High School will hold its Veterans Day observance at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9. A guest speaker and special quilt presentation to two veterans will be included in the ceremony.
