Wenatchee Valley Humane Society Offers Advice for Hot Weather and the Fourth

Posted

NCW - As the Fourth of July nears and the weather soars past 100 degrees, Wenatchee Valley Humane Society offers advice for pet owners around the valley.
Wenatchee Valley Animal Care and Control sees a significant rise in lost animals around the days leading up to the Fourth of July and days immediately following the celebration, as pets escape from homes, yards or kennels due to panic. In addition to helping pets through festivities, the hot weather is another thing to watch.
“The best thing we can do for our pets is to keep them cool, at home, and ensure they have proper identification via licensing and microchipping,” WVHS Executive Director Taylor Sharp said. “During this very hot holiday, create a safe and cool place indoors.”
With the lingering high temperatures, keep pets indoors during the day. If pets do spend time outside during the day, ensure they have access to shade at all hours of the day and are not on hot pavement or asphalt. Water for pets should be refreshed often to keep the water cool and pets should have access to water at all times. Most importantly, leave pets at home and do not leave pets in a hot car.
WVHS offers the following tips for keeping pets safe and stress-free on the Fourth:
    •    Make sure pets are in a secure space with something soft to curl up to and music softly playing.
    •    Secure doors and windows.
    •    Do not bring pets to outdoor festivities.
    •    Ensure all tags and or identification is up to date (Licenses should be registered with PetHub for free and profiles updated with any license renewals).

If your pet becomes lost or you find a lost pet, contact ACC to file a report at (509) 888-7283 (888-SAVE). Lost/Found reports can also be filed online, where you can also view photos of lost/found pets.
