Next Clam Chowder Friday is Jan. 27

BREWSTER - The first Clam Chowder Friday held at the Brewster-Pateros-Bridgeport Senior Center, Jan. 13, was a success, said Center President, Kathy Lowry.

"We sold out all of our chowder," said Lowry, who made up a 16-quart kettle of it.

In the process the cooks learned a thing or two about what will be offered at future Clam Chowder Fridays.

"We have changed the menu to be a bowl of chowder, a Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit, a cookie and either coffee or tea for $5.95," Lowry said.

Take-out orders will also be made available for those who call in advance to 689-2815 and request an order. The next Clam Chowder Friday will be Jan. 27.

Lunch menu:

Thursday, Jan. 19 

Deluxe cheeseburger, potato salad, tropical fruit, dessert.

Monday, Jan. 23 

Clam chowder, 1/2 egg salad sandwich, spinach salad, apricots, dessert.

Tuesday, Jan. 24 

Potato frankfurter casserole, garden salad, whole wheat roll, berry crisp.

Wednesday, Jan. 25

Meatloaf, potatoes & gravy, Brussels Sprouts, carrot-raisin salad, fruit cup, whole wheat roll, dessert

Snowmobile benefit ride

LOUP LOUP SNOW PARK - A Snowmobile Benefit Ride, to benefit a local snowmobiler, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21. Meet at the Loup Loup Sno Park at 10 a.m. or meet at Peacock Sno Park at 9 a.m. Ride to Conconcully to eat at local restaurants. Ride is sponsored by Association of Okanogan County. March for Life

OMAK - There will be a March for Life, for the defense of the unborn on Thursday, Jan. 26, the anniversary of the Roe vs Wade decision, legalizing abortion. You are invited to be the voice of the innocent babies that are aborted and also the healing and transformation of the Culture of Death into a Culture of Life, for all people, especially those who have been involved in an abortion.

PATEROS- BREWSTER - BRIDGEPORT - The five-county library district is currently working on a new strategic plan and would like to hear what the public thinks of its libraries and what they'd like do see in the future. A public survey is now available online at ncrl.org and copies in English and Spanish can be picked up at any of the district's 30 branch libraries in Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Okanogan and Ferry counties.

The survey asks questions about which libraries people use, how often they visit, and why they go there (such as attend programs, check out books or use public computers).

NCRL hopes to have all surveys returned by Feb. 1.

Okanogan County School Retirees' Association to meet

OMAK - The Okanogan County School Retirees' Association will meet at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27 for a no-host luncheon meeting at Koala Street Grill, 914 Koala St., in Omak. Antiques expert, Virginia Sheets, will be the featured speaker. Attendees may bring one item for appraisal.

Cancer Support Groups

CHELAN - Second Meeting Added: The Women's Wellness Group, cancer support group, now has 2 support groups, the second Tuesday (Feb. 14) of each month for lunch, with lunch provided by the Wenatchee Wellness Place, at the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Board Room at 11:45 a.m. and the fourth Wednesday (Jan. 25) of each month at LaBrisa at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Anne at 682-8718.

Chamber meetings

PATEROS - The Pateros Chamber of Commerce will meet on Thursday, Feb. 2, 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Hall. If you have not paid your Chamber dues yet, please do. Cost is only $35 for individuals, and $75 for businesses.

Aging & Adult Services board meeting

EAST WENATCHEE - The 2017 meeting schedule for the Columbia River Council of Governments, governing body of Aging and Adult Care of Central Washington, scheduled to meet at 50 Simon Street S.E.: Feb. 2; March 2; April 6; May 4; June 1; July 6; Aug. 3; Sept. 7; Oct. 5; Nov. 2; and Dec.7. All meetings begin at 1:30 p.m. Grant County Commissioner Cindy Carter is chair of the council, composed of one county commissioner from Adams, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Lincoln, and Okanogan Counties.

American Legion

BREWSTER - On Feb. 5, Super Bowl Sunday there will be a chili cook off at the American Legion. Bring in your best chili. Prizes for first, second, and third place. No entry fee. Voted on by the customers. $5.00 all you can chili. On Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. they are having a Crab Feed. All you can eat. Presale tickets only for $37.00. The American Legion serves a sirloin steak dinner every Friday, 5-7 p.m.; and breakfast every Sunday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Bingo Wednesday

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport Eagles hosts bingo every Wednesday. Dinner is served at 5 p.m., bingo begins at 7 p.m., with dinner available until the bingo is over. Everyone is welcome.

AA meeting

BREWSTER - "Free At Last"!, an Alcoholics Anonymous group meets in Brewster. Meetings are Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., at Brewster Grange Hall. All meetings are "open".
