James Virgil Yancey, 74, of Pateros, Washington, passed away on May 13, 2021 in Wenatchee due to COVID. He was born November 7, 1946 in Sacramento, California and graduated from Placer High School in 1965 and from Pyrotechnic in Yakima, Washington. He married Rose C. Romiski on October 7, 1969 in Reno, Nevada.
He was a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2005 and owned and operated Yancey’s Pateros Hardware from 2005 to 2020.
He belonged to the American Legion in Brewster and was a lifetime member of the NRA.
He served in the U.S. Army, serving two years, seven months and 23 days and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Medal, and the Marksmanship Medal.
He loved camping with his family, doing fireworks shows for the Pateros community, farming, hunting, fishing, playing practical jokes on family and friends. His favorite Tuesday night past time was playing Texas Hold’em with his friends! His most favorite treasurers were his puppies Mitzi and Spot.
He is survived by wife of 51 1/2 years Rosa; daughters, Terrisa and Bridget; son-in-law, Denman; son, Virgil; daughter-in-law, Michelle; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 21, 2021 in Brewster, with time and place to be announced. Burial will be in Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Spokane, Washington.
