Jean Brownlee Engfer


Jean Brownlee Engfer passed away May 26, 2022, at Snohomish, Washington, after a long battle with MS. She was 75. Jean was born on April 15, 1947 in Omak, Washington, to Robert and Doris Brownlee of Pateros, Washington. Jean spent her youth in Pateros and was a twelve year graduate of Pateros High School. Jean became a beautician and worked in the Brewster–Pateros area for many years. She also worked as a cook and waitress at the Rountable restaurant in Pateros. Later, she worked at Eastern State Hospital in Spokane, Washington, and Fircrest Hospital in Fircrest, Washington. Jean was a single Mom to her daughters: Amy and Amber. In the mid 1980’s, she met Max Engfer. They were married in June of 1988, in Pateros. Max and Jean made their home in Marysville, Washington, where Max was employed. Max was a dedicated caregiver for Jean as her MS intensified. Max died in 2015 and a result, Jean was moved to a nursing home in Snohomish, Washington, where she remained until her death. Jean is survived by her daughters: Amy Harris (Dustin Wilson), and Amber Escalante (Dave); her grandchildren: Carson and Jackson Harris, and Mateo and Jayden Escalante; and her brother, Phil Brownlee (Joan). She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Engfer; her parents, Robert and Doris Brownlee; her brother, Andrew Brownlee; and her sister, Lorraine (Brownlee) Gilden.
