Peggy Lou Tarbell

Peggy Lou Tarbell, age 92 passed away peacefully April 22, 2017 at the Cedar Creek Adult Family Home with family by her side. Peggy was born September 21, 1924 in Pateros, Washington, to William and Josephine Malott.

Peggy thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors.  She learned to swim at a very young age and as a teenager she taught swim lessons at Alta Lake in Pateros, Washington.  Peggy was a cheerleader and played the violin in the band throughout her high school years.  As an adult, she continued her love of sports. Peggy actively followed her favorite teams; WSU football, Gonzaga basketball, the Seattle Mariners and of course Peggy never missed a Seahawk game.

Peggy graduated from Pateros High in 1942, and then went on to marry her high school sweetheart Robert Welborn. They settled in Pateros and had three children.  In 1954, they moved to Dalles, Oregon.  In 1955, Peggy’s husband died in an automobile accident. Peggy moved to Tacoma, with her three children, to be close to her parents.  In 1958, she met her loving husband and partner of 52 years Bill Tarbell.

Peggy is survived by her daughter Jo Olson, sons Bill Welborn (Judy) and Bob Welborn (Deanna); grandchildren Greta Stevens (Lisa), Erika Olson and Krista Jones (Ben) and four great-grandchildren Taylor Stevens, Lucas Stevens (Sarah), Alexis Geiger and Maddison Stevens.  

Peggy loved her family very much and enjoyed being with them, especially on family trips.

There will be Graveside Service for both Peggy and Bill Tarbell at the Pateros Cemetery in Pateros, Washington. The service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday June 10, 2017. A reception will follow the service at the Brewster Senior Center.
