PATEROS – With a full agenda typical of a Pateros City Council meeting, members passed five of six resolutions and heard updates on city projects ranging from the new Memorial to the Methow and Ives Landing Park expansion to sewer, water and street issues last Monday, March 20.
Council approved a request from property owner Steve Varrelman for a variance on setbacks at 128 W. Warren Avenue.
Council also approved:
• A Time Study Policy for city employees as recommended by the state auditor.
• A Light Meal and Refreshment Policy, also recommended by the state auditor.
• A Fuel Card Policy for fuels cards used by the Volunteer Fire Department.
• Estimated costs to draft the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the Pedersen Road Neighborhood Project.
Council also approved tent camping in Memorial Park and the Winter Boat Launch for the Hydros event on August 11-13, and accepted the proposed cost of $6,802.60 for Erlandsen & Associates to survey that portion of Warren Avenue being returned to the city by Douglas Co. PUD.
Signs and sculptures have been ordered for the Memorial to the Methow installation in Lakeshore Park. The locations for the teepee, oven and camp have been adjusted to be more “event-friendly,” city administrator, Jord Wilson said.
Wilson said Rob Crandall, owner of Methow Natives, has offered to donates plants for the memorial grounds. Plans call for plant placement during Arbor Day celebrations, April 28.
Wilson also met with representatives of Varela & Associates of Spokane to reduce cost estimates for the expansion of Ives Landing Park. Contractor bid advertisements will be let from March 22-April 5. Bid opening will take place April 11 and council will award the contract on April 17.
Wilson said construction should take 20 days to complete and landscaping done in time for the Aug. 12 boat races.
The year’s first water meter reads were scheduled to occur between March 20-24.
