Pateros High School choir presents 'Guys and Dolls'

Posted
Pateros high schoolers will take the stage like never before this weekend.

The story, about the engaging Nathan Detroit, played by Billy Hunter, as he out runs the local police, desperately trying to find a location for his latest high stakes craps game while fending off his girlfriend of 14 years, Miss Adelaide, played by Emily Larsen. She is done waiting and has developed a psychosomatic cold because of her frustrating 14-year engagement to the slippery Nathan.

In this exciting adventure, the Pateros High School choir is performing Guys and Dolls Jr., one of the most successful American musicals of all time, based on the story and characters by Damon Runyon.

The second storyline is the improbable romance between strait-laced Save-A-Soul Mission sergeant Sarah Brown, played by Anna Schluneger, whose mission is short on sinners, and high rolling gambler Sky Masterson, played by Lance Evans.

The action revs up when Nathan bets Sky that he can't get Mission girl Sarah to go to Havana with him for dinner so he can get money to hold his craps game.  All the hot gamblers are in town and depending on Nathan to bring on the action. Intertwined throughout the plot are some of Broadway's most glorious  musical favorites like, "Guys and Dolls," "Luck Be a Lady," and "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat," written by Frank Loesser.

These dedicated Pateros thespians have been in rehearsal since February under the direction of Pateros Music Teacher Jonathan McBride, with the help of stage manager Madison White.

Combined with excellent student performances, period costumes and a fabulous Broadway backdrop courtesy of Judy Johnston and the Chelan Valley Players, Guys and Dolls is truly a must see.

And it's great entertainment for all ages."  Show times are May 16, 17 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pateros High School gym.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students. Check the Pateros School District website for more information.
