Pledging eternal love at the Brewster Bridge

That’s amore

Posted
Somewhere in Venice-or no-Naples? Florence? Maybe Rome. Anyway, somewhere in Italy there's this bridge. Because it's Italy and they've been doing this sort of thing for 2,000 years or so, it's a beautiful little bridge, and-because it's Italy-it's got this romantic tradition attached to it, kind of a fun tradition.

It's all about locks.

One half of a couple-guys mostly; it's kind of a guy idea-will take a lock and a piece of chain, and engrave his name and his wife or girlfriend's name on the lock, wrap the chain around the bridge railing and lock it up. As pledges of eternal love go, it's pretty romantic. And pretty fun.

Very amore.

Somebody in Brewster read about this bridge, or went to Italy and saw it, and had an idea. They took a piece of chain and a lock, and engraved their name and their sweetheart's name on it, and looped the chain around the railing of the Brewster Bridge, and locked it up. Now the Brewster Bridge isn't a beautiful little bridge in a romantic Italian city, but hey, it's the thought that counts. Some other guys apparently got the message, because there are three locks on that little piece of chain.

It turns out that a strictly utilitarian piece of chain and a lock from the drugstore can be just as amore as a lock on a classic Italian bridge. They can be found on the upstream side, just in case any other guy is looking for a romantic gesture.
