Pateros School Board appoints 2019 officers

PATEROS – The Pateros School Board elected its 2019 officers in its annual board reorganization during the group’s regular meeting on Dec. 10, 2018.

Grace Larsen, 2018 board chair person was appointed as board chair for the coming year. Chad Miller was appointed board vice-chair.

No board members were available to fill the position as Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) legislative representative, so school superintendent Greg Goodnight will assume the role as the board’s proxy.

The board approved a request by the Pateros Apple Pie Jamboree to use school busses to transport youth performers to practices with the Missoula Children’s Theatre this summer.

Consideration of several levy taxation options was tabled by a vote to the board to allow members additional time to discuss the issue.

Marc Armstrong and Parker Barth were selected to represent the board at the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting on Feb. 6. Charles Miller and Chad Miller will attend the April 10 PAC meeting.

Under personnel matters, Kim Beard was hired as long-term high school math/junior high science substitute.

Cindy Cavasos was hired to assist varsity wrestling coach Shane Kelly.

Jason Getzin was promoted to Transportation Director.

Mike Hull delivered the principal’s report which included the unscheduled evacuation drill when the city’s new water system came online and triggered a sensor alarm from the spike in water pressure.

Hull also thanked North Central Regional Library for the visit of author Ruta Sepetys whose presentation of her book, Between Shades of Gray, “was amazing.” Hull said.

Hull reported that students are receiving certificates for participating in “unplugged” as part of a program to reduce cell phone use.
Students from grades eight through sophomore visited Wenatchee Valley College on Dec. 7, as part of GEAR UP College.

The next regular meeting of the school board is 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the school library.
