OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Health announced today that a King County resident with measles and several Clark County cases may have been exposed to the virus in a public location where all were present the same day and time period during their likely exposure period.

The department is supporting local public health agencies with disease investigation, laboratory testing and other efforts to protect their communities. A current statewide case count for the measles outbreak is available on the department’s website and will be updated daily.

The current case count is:

• Clark County: 25 confirmed cases, 12 suspected cases
• King County: 1 confirmed case

Measles is highly contagious, and can be serious, especially for young children. Measles is easily spread when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Almost everyone who has not had the vaccine will get measles if they are exposed to the measles virus.

The department urges everyone to check their own and their children’s immunization records to verify that they’re fully immunized.
