NCRL award two CVID-19 grants

WENATCHEE – On the heels of a $20,000 grant received last month from Microsoft and the Public Library Association to expand its Wi-Fi reach, the North Central Regional Library (NCRL) has been awarded two more grants to help the district respond to COVID-19 difficulties.
“Both grants are funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the Washington State Library,” said NCRL Communications Manager Michelle McNiel. “One of the grants will provide 30 Wi-Fi hotspots and $12,000 to help pay for internet connectivity.”
The hotspot grant will provide an additional 100 hotspots minus the connection funding.
McNiel said the second $3,000 grant will pay for washable keyboard covers that will be installed at NCRL branches when those reopen to the public.
“NCRL is excited to reopen our libraries and ensure that we protect the health of our staff and patrons in the process,” said NCRL Executive Director Barbara Walters. “We have partnered with local vendors and sought out grant opportunities in order to effectively respond to health concerns and the needs of our communities.
Libraries can reopen to the public under Phase 3 of the state Safe Start plan that allows gatherings of up to 50 people.
