BBGC Tiny Tots host 13 teams in home tournament

Posted

BREWSTER – The Brewster Boys and Girls Club Tiny Tots basketball team hosted 13 teams in its third tournament of the season and the first one on the home court last Saturday, Dec. 22.

BBGC interim director and team coach Heather Carrington reported that the young players “are doing really well. Learning and growing. Having a lot of fun.”

The BBGC home tournament that included teams from Omak, Okanogan, Nespelem, and Wenatchee was named the J & J Henton Memorial Tournament in honor of Jacque (Henton) Workman and Jerry Henton.

“This brother-sister duo was instrumental in the youth of their community, not only through sports but they both served on the Bridgeport School Board, were 4H Leaders and both were heavily involved in the community activities,” said Carrington. “In 2007 the family and community lost both these outstanding community members but their legacy lives in their own children, grandchildren and countless youth they have helped along the way.”

The Tiny tots are comprised of youngsters from preschool age through second grade. They played their first game at Omak, Dec. 8, followed by Nespelem on Dec. 15. The final game of the season will be played at Okanogan on Saturday, Jan. 5.

It takes a while to cycle 13 teams through a day of competition. Games began at 8 a.m. at the BBGC last Saturday morning and continued through 6:30 p.m.

Raffle items were provided by Brewster Drug store, Sweet T’s and Slidewaters.

Carrington expressed her thanks to all who helped set up the tournament, volunteered to help referee, run concessions and run the clock.
