Brewster FFA prepares for popular spring plant sale

Posted

BREWSTER – Spring is a busy time of the year for the Bears’ FFA Chapter because everyone is pitching in to have plantings ready for the greenhouse sale and table displays at Arbor Day and other community events.
Between personal woodshop and metalwork projects, students find time to take on community service work and keep one eye on the livestock preparations for September’s Okanogan County Fair. Past and present projects include making flag-holding crosses that are placed on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day. Another project involved making custom bird houses for wild bird habitat around Chief Joseph Dam.
Every year the Ag students create special order floral arrangements for Valentines Day and other events.
Ag instructor Todd Dezellem encourages his students to work with the younger set through the Greenhouse Buddy Partnership where skill sets are shared with kindergartners. In the past the Brewster students have also worked with youngsters at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club on creating raised planting beds.
At least a dozen or more Brewster FFA members take livestock including hogs, steers and sheep to the Okanogan County Fair.
