Brewster fourth grader saves classmate from choking

Posted

Jace Hendrix, a fourth grader in Mr. Dodge’s Brewster Elementary class, noticed his classmate choking on a bite of food during lunch on Friday, May 26. Jace jumped into action and alerted Mr. Grant, the principal. Grant assessed the emergency, determined that the student was not breathing, wrapped his arms around the student and began performing the Heimlich Maneuver. The student’s airway was cleared and within seconds the student was breathing fine. Jace was given a “Lifesaver” award for his heroics. Hendrix is pictured with his teacher, Mr. Dodge and the award.
