Bridgeport dedicates new Middle School

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – From ground-breaking to ribbon-cutting, a project that was multiple years in the making officially became reality on Saturday, Feb. 22, when the Bridgeport Middle School made its debut on the district campus.
School superintendent Scott Sattler was joined by school board members, county officials and special guests as he delivered remarks about the district’s newest addition to a gymnasium full of local citizens on hand to witness the ribbon cutting. As it happened, the ribbon cutting occurred on the same week that special election results announced that the school district’s new four-year maintenance and operations levy was approved by a comfortable margin by voters.
Sattler recognized current school board members Tracy Zahn, board chair, Matt West, Maggie Ochoa, Wayne vanZoll, and Bernie Polvos and past board members Rick Halterman, Janie Jenkins, and Zeke Martinez for their role is making the building renovation project possible.
“All eight of these board members recognized the need to run a bond that would take care of overcrowding at all three of our buildings,” Sattler said.
Sattler also recognized past district administrators, teachers, and employees in attendance at the event.
Former Bridgeport superintendent Dr. Gene Schmidt wrote a congratulatory letter to Sattler which said, in part: “I still speak and share stories of the accomplishments of Bridgeport’s students and staff as inspirational models of educational success to listening groups as I present in New Mexico and around the nation,” said Schmidt. “I ordered a Washington State flag to be flown over the Capitol Building in Olympia on your schools’ special day. Fly the flag with pride.”
Schmidt is currently superintendent of the Farmington Municipal School District in New Mexico.
