Former greats gather for second annual Brewster Alumni game

BREWSTER – It was a full day of basketball at Champions Gym at Brewster High School last Saturday, Jan. 13, as more than two dozen former Bears varsity basketball players gathered for the second annual Bear Backers Alumni Basketball Game in between AAU and high school games.
Brewster AAU teams got the floor warmed up with games in the morming hours before the alums took the floor at noon. The veterans played until 3:30 p.m. when the gym was cleared to set up for non-league high school varsity and JV games that started at 4:30 p.m.
Alumni players included Brice Boesel, Johnny Gebbers, David Garcia, Luke Divis, Chance Williams, Chase LaMoreaux, Tim Taylor, Mark Brown, Erick Foyle, Jasen Brown, Edgar Guzman, Cole Youngers, Jesse Villalobos, Clay Divis, Todd Phillips, Randy Phillips, Ed Hernandez, Ernie Santos, Clay Gebbers, Isidro Najera, Derin Benson, Stockton Taylor, Hawkins Gebbers, Ryan Brown, Dustin Boesel, Don Becker, Michael Taylor, Rafael Sanchez, and Wade Gebbers.
The alums were divided into four teams that squared off in four 16-minute games. In Game 1, Team 2 comprised of Ernie Santos, Luke Divis, Hawkins Gebbers, Johnny Gebbers, Cole Youngers and Raf Sanchez, barely defeated Team 1 of Brice Boesel, Clay Divis, Clay Gebbers, Derin Benson, Jesse Villalobos, Jasen Brown and Edgar Guzman. By a point, 27-26.
In Game 2, Team 3, made up of Ryan Brown, Stockton Taylor, Michael Taylor, Mark Brown, Chance Williams and Erick Foyle, swept past Team 4, comprised of Dustin Boesel, Isidro Najera, Wade Gebbers, Todd Phillips, Chase LaMoreaux, David Garcia and Ed Hernandez, 42-26.
In the Game 3 consolation round, Teams 1 and 4 battled it out with Team 1 taking a narrow 42-39 victory.
In the championship game, Team 2 was a two-point, 30-28 winner over Team 3.
Among the afternoon’s other activities was a timed, Three-Point Contest, timed Skills Challenge and Team Hot Spot Shot.
Isidro Najera took home three-point honors. Luke Divis won the skills and then teamed up with Clay Divis and Stockton Taylor to claim the hot spot shot.
Many of those playing were here last January for the first Alumni that brought together 20 years of talent dating from 1997.
