VANCOUVER - Woman of Wonder, Inc., a nonprofit that funds college scholarships, awarded scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year to eight women of Washington State including Bridgeport resident Liliana Medel attending the University of Washington. This is the second year that Medel has been a Woman of Wonder scholarship recipient.

“We’re honored to support these incredible women,” said Board President Carol Doane. “Our winners demonstrated commitment to their communities, and their dedication to complete their degrees shows commitment to themselves. We’re excited to see the impact they will have as they pursue their career aspirations.”

Woman of Wonder’s scholarship program is open to residents of Washington state and are submitted through www.theWashBoard.org January 1 through April 10. Candidates are required to provide their FAFSA® EFC number (expected Family Contribution), or their WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid), and two signed letters of recommendation. A guide to help applicants with the apply process is found on the nonprofit’s website, How to apply for a college scholarship.

Uniquely, Woman of Wonder’s gives preference to woman who are single parents, women raised by a single parent, or women on their own with little or no support.

This year the decision was difficult due to caliber of the applications. “We were impressed with the pool of the applicants,” said board member Pat Stephens, “We couldn’t have made a bad choice.” This has increased the board’s commitment to boost raise awareness of the nonprofit to potential donors. This is the third year that scholarships have been awarded.

The nonprofit has consistently earned Guidestar’s Seal of Transparency and was named one of Candid’s #GivingTuesday Sweepstakes Winners.
