MANSFIELD – The FFA members at Mansfield High School know how to celebrate National FFA Week that started last Saturday, Feb. 17, and ends this Saturday, Feb. 24.
Students are participating in color-theme Dress-Up Days for all ages, K-12, said Mansfield FFA Advisor Jamey Jo Steele.
Wednesday, Feb. 21 was red vs green, so students could express their favorite between John Deere or Case, or some other popular farm equipment brand.
Thursday, Feb. 22 is Cowboy-Cowgirl Day with attire to match.
Friday, Feb. 23 is FFA Day where the traditional FFA colors of blue and gold or a Mansfield FFA T-shirt is the thing to wear.
Also, on Friday is the Staff and School Board Appreciation Breakfast that begins serving at 7:15 a.m. Later at 2 p.m. the annual Ag Olympics Class Competition open to grades 7-12 will test a range of skills.
“Our chapter also participated in the Adopt-A-Highway program,” Steele said.
The chapter now has a two-mile stretch of State Route 172 that runs right in front of the school that they are responsible for litter pickup twice a year.
Last fall the Mansfield FFA chapter participated in Apple Judging at both the district and state level.
“This spring will be busy with students competing in Career Development Events such as Creed, Extemporaneous Speaking, Job Interview, and Livestock Judging,” said Steele. “We will spend time in Pullman at State Convention May 10-12.”
The chapter’s school farm located near Mansfield High School will be a hub of activity when pigs and goats destined for this year’s fairs arrive over Spring Break.
