PATEROS – The Pateros School District has a new interim superintendent following a vote by the district’s board of directors last month. At a special meeting held Nov. 14, board members approved the contract of Mike Parker, an educational consultant and retired educator.

Parker agreed to join the Pateros School District for the remainder of the year as interim superintendent and will replace Greg Goodnight who notified the board of his intent to retire at the conclusion of the 2023 school year.

Parker has more than 42 years of experience in public education serving many roles including high school teacher, assistant principal/athletic director, principal, and superintendent. Since his retirement Parker has been an educational consultant and superintendent search advisor with the McPherson & Jacobsen Executive Recruitment and Development firm in Omaha, Nebraska.

Earlier Parker served as an assistant principal/athletic director for the Chelan School District and now resides in Orondo, with his wife Bobbi, a former schoolteacher who most recently taught in the Orondo School District. She is now a school board member with Orondo.

The Parkers have five grown children: Justin, Kelli, Kayci, Zachary, and Kelci, three of whom - Justin, Kelli, and Kelci - are also schoolteachers.

Parker accepted his first superintendent position with the Concrete School District in 2003. He served in the same capacity in Hoquiam in 2006 and remained there until his retirement in 2017. He began his own personal business, MP Educational Consultant, in the summer of 2017.

Parker “brings a wealth of experience, skill, and knowledge to the district,” the PSD website said. “He looks forward to working with the staff, students, and community in making Pateros the best it can be.”
