Orozco makes 2nd appearance at state championships

hool senior, Tessa Orozco, made her second appearance at the state swimming championships this season and placed ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal best time and 13th in the 50-yard freestyle.
This year’s championships were held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, where Orozco scored her PB butterfly of one minute, 1.43 seconds.
Orozco started swimming competitively as an eight-year-old on the Bearacudas summer league team, and continued with them for 8 seasons
Orozco joined Velocity, the year-round club team in Wenatchee in the fall of her sophomore year. Upon learning that Eastmont High School accepted co-op swimmers, and with help from both schools’ athletic directors, she joined the Eastmont school team as a junior.
Even though Orozco practices with Eastmont as part of the 34-girl swim and dive team, she competes for Brewster.
At state in 2016, Orozco placed 17th in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 50 freestyle.
Owing to her participation at state, Orozco was invited to join the Washington Cultural Exchange for a 10-day swim trip to China last April 1-10.
This year Orozco won first in the district 5/6/7 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. To qualify for state a swimmer must either make the state time or place in the top three at districts.
Orozco is enrolled in Running Start at Wenatchee Valley College in Omak.
“I am planning on swimming in college,” said Orozco. “but I haven't decided where yet.”
Orozco said she will compete in either D2 or D3 swimming and will start visiting schools this winter.
