Posted

PATEROS – The Pateros School District Board of Directors approved several positions in its fall lineup of sports coaching staff during its regular meeting on June 24.

The coaching positions include:
• Tom Asmussen (head coach) and Justin Carrington (assistant), junior high girls basketball.
• Erik Romero (head coach) and Brandon Butler (assistant), junior high football.
• Chloe Gill (head coach) and Melanie Williams (assistant), high school volleyball.
•  Marcus Stennes (head coach) and Shane Kelly (assistant), high school football.
• Jesse Villalobos, high school soccer.
• Erika Varrelman, high school cheer.

The board approved the resignation of long-time high school girls basketball coach John Slater with thanks for his many years of coaching.

The board hired Amy Stennes as K-12 Guidance Counselor.

Athlete of the Year awards were announced for Ivan Ceniceros and Anna Williams.

The board approved preparation work on the school’s new eight-acre field location. Members voted to authorize $15,000 funding for 100 loads of topsoil to be brought in to prepare the parcel for grass.

A pair of bikes donated by the Masons were awarded by drawing to two students participating in the Accelerated Reading program. Second grader Nevelyn Wilson and third grader Jasper Kelly were the lucky winners. In a generous gesture, another student whose name was initially drawn said: “I already have a new bike. Please re-draw so somebody else can get a new bike.”

Now, that’s class.
