Posted

OLYMPIA – Sponsored by 12th District Rep. Keith Goehner, Bridgeport High School student Idania Garcia-Olea spent a week in Olympia, Jan. 27 -31, as a page in the state House of Representatives.
“I am pleased Idania made the effort to come to Olympia and get a firsthand look at how the Legislature works I am grateful for her service during her week in Olympia,” said Goehner, R-Dryden. “Serving in the page program helps students get a better understanding of the political process of our state government and the issues before us.”
Idania is the daughter of Jose Garcia and Maria Luisa Olea. Her hobbies include playing bass, clarinet, volleyball, cheer, track and field, singing, math and politics.
Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spend a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators on the House floor. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program.
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the House page program, visit: http://www.leg.wa.gov/House/Pages/HousePageProgram.aspx.
