Rep. Kim Schrier votes for more funding for PPP and testing

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) today, April 23, voted in favor of the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act. This legislation has passed the Senate and expected to be signed by the President.

“Today’s bill is critical for small businesses in my district, who are desperately waiting for this financial lifeline,” said Rep. Schrier.
“The funding for testing is also critical, as our country is woefully behind. We need 10 - 20 times current levels of testing to know who is infected and isolate them, and to find emerging hot spots. Without that, we’re flying blind and will see new surges. Widespread testing is key to moving forward.”

The Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act will:
• strengthen the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) with $310 billion in additional funding, with $30 billion reserved for community-based lenders, small banks and credit unions and $30 billion for medium-sized banks and credit unions. It will also put strong protections in place to ensure that our nation’s farmers have access to this vital assistance.
• provide $75 billion to make sure hospitals and health care workers have the resources they need.
• secure $25 billion for testing, which is the key to getting people back to work and restarting the economy. Some of this funding will go towards a national strategic testing policy that will focus on increasing domestic testing capacity including testing supplies.
